Some interesting facts
The London Marathon is the Guinness World Record's largest annual fundraising event in the world. The event itself holds a Guinness World Record for one-day charity fundraising, a record it has broken each year for the past nine years.
Since its launch 36 years ago, London Marathon runners have raised over £770 million for charity.
The 1,000,000 runner crossed the line in 2016
The London Marathon is shown on television in nearly 200 countries around the world, so remember to smile at the cameras.
The hottest marathon day was in 2007 when temperatures peaked at 21.7°C.
The coldest race day was a chilly 7.6°C in 1994.
The most common occupation for people running the marathon is teaching, but scientists, nurses, taxi drivers, electricians and burlesque dancers have all taken on 26.2 miles across London.
In 2016 there were 1.25m bottles of water and energy drinks, 738,000 items of food, clothing and rewards and nearly 40,000 finisher bags at the event, with 600 trestle tables for the feed stations located at every mile.
At mile 10.5, the route passes within 300 yards of the Mayflower, the pub where the Pilgrim Fathers met for a quick pint before they sailed to America.
